About
Hi, my name is Maddie and I’m a music teacher and trumpet player. I am passionate about enabling everyone to become involved in and enjoy music. Some people think music is a mysterious club, only for ‘musical’ people. It’s not. Music is for all - and that’s the simple beauty of it.
I was inspired to start learning the trumpet and subsequently pursue a career in music by my first teacher Bernard Hazelgrove. After a memorable demonstration at my primary school which involved a brass quintet and a hosepipe, I was hooked! I studied at Huddersfield University and achieved a Master's degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Under the tuition of Paul Cosh and Paul Beniston I encompassed a wide variety of genres and styles. I gained invaluable experience during ‘Sit-ins’ with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra, and toured to Italy (Orchestra Bruno Maderna di Forlì, Mozart Requiem 2006 and GSMD Symphony Orchestra 2007). Highlights of my concert performances include Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto (with the Aldworth Philharmonic), Vivaldi’s Double Trumpet Concerto (touring to France with The South Chiltern Choral Society) and performing at the Henley Festival with Chiltern Brass Quintet.
I have worked as an instrumental brass teacher and classroom music teacher for over 20 years. I currently teach at Cranford School and Leighton Park School as a visiting music teacher of Brass, also directing their Brass Groups. I offer music theory lessons and GCSE/A-Level intervention/support. Outside of school I founded and set up Weller Voices, a community choir in Caversham.
I live in Cholsey and when not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes 3 children and our dog, Ruddles. I am a keen hockey player and a member of Wallingford Hockey Club.
